The roster below is California's own list, published by Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), on its own date: file dated October 1, 2026. Registration is a filing status, not a quality rating. A name on this list means the company filed with the state; it says nothing about how the company pays claims.

The rules in plain words

• The BHGS file covers service contracts on consumer goods and appliances. Vehicle service contracts are not in it.
• The monthly bulk file dated October 1, 2026 holds 104 service contract administrators (93 active, 11 delinquent) and 14,701 seller locations (13,229 active). Each sales location registers on its own, which is why the seller count is so large. This page prints all 104 administrators with the status the file gives each one, and beside each the number of seller locations registered under exactly the same name.
• Each row carries a license type and number, an original issue date, an expiry date, a status and a county. The original issue date is a real first-licensed date, but the file mixes appliance and electronics businesses with everything else.
• Companies that sell vehicle coverage in California describe the California product as mechanical breakdown insurance, an insurance policy, rather than a service contract. On pages read October 16, 2026: Endurance names Security National as the insurer of its California plans; olive posts a separate California mechanical breakdown insurance sample; autopom! says its California product is sold that way. CARCHEX lists California as a state it does not serve.
• Home warranty companies are not in the BHGS file. This index understands them to sit with the California Department of Insurance and has not confirmed that list.
